Art exhibit: Painting the Border; A Child’s Voice

Art exhibit: Painting the Border; A Child’s Voice

Come observe powerful and impactful artwork made by asylum seeking children taking shelter in Cuidad Juárez, Mexico, one of the most dangerous cities in the world. The artists, ages 4 – 18, are children who, either alone or with parents, are among more than 17,000 asylum seekers stranded in Ciudad Juárez under the Migration Protection Protocols.  The artists are awaiting their asylum hearings. The childrens’ paintings depict how they feel about their conditions and their futures. The exhibit is from Skidmore College.

Students in the “Economics of Immigration” SRS class are formally hosting an art exhibit depicting art work made by asylum seeking children in Juárez. There will be a public reception on Thursday, November 21st from 4:30-5:30pm in 100 Hamilton St. We will be serving appetizers from Mi Casa Restaurant. Please come and observe some important art. All are welcome.

The exhibit will be on-campus until December 4th. If groups would like to arrange a private viewing, please contact Professor Nicole Simpson (nsimpson@colgate.edu) or Hilary Almanza (halmanza@colgate.edu).
